Amgen is seeking a Director of Information Systems (IS) Operations and Project Delivery to be based at our corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Director will report to the VP, Chief Information Officer.

The Director of Information Systems Operations and Project Delivery will develop and implement an effective technology project management approach across the IS/GBS (Global Business Systems) Technology groups that delivers greater business value, speed, agility and cost efficiencies. Initially, the Director will lead the Project Delivery workstream under Amgen’s “Maximize IS Value” initiative to establish the best practices for delivering these technology projects. Once these best-practices have been established, the Director will transition to become the business owner for maintaining and improving these best practices.

Additionally, the Director will drive the transformation to equip Project Managers (PMs) to better identify and execute portions of our portfolio through product release mindset. Utilizing concepts such as minimal viable product releases iterations (i.e. Pivotal labs), the Director will work cross functionally with ISLT leadership to ensure alignment on global release strategies. Further, the Director will establish and drive adoption of key IS operations’ play book, processes and constructs surrounding IS/GBS operating model.

Key Responsibilities for the Director will include:

Lead Project Delivery workstream as part of Maximize IS Value initiative:

  • Achieve level 3 maturity as defined by Project Management Institute (PMI) in programs, traditional projects and project form of agile execution
  • Develops advanced agile frameworks (scrum, SAFe, DevOps) to deliver with greater agility and speed
  • Identifies the required competencies and resourcing to effectively deliver technology projects
  • Develops proposals and options for project delivery as part of Maximize IS Value initiative
  • Facilitates Project Managers, Quality, Finance and other stakeholders to evolve project approaches
  • Engages with business and technology leaders, project team members to ensure new approaches are fit-for-purpose and meet stakeholder needs
  • Collaborates and coordinates with Maximize IS Value initiative leads and workstream leads to ensure the future state resourcing, organization and talent needs for project delivery are incorporated into overall solution design

As the Project Delivery Business Owner:

  • Leads the change in how teams deliver projects across all IS/GBS tech
  • Embeds and sustains these project management best-practices across IS/GBS tech
  • Establishes performance metrics to measure and improve project delivery
  • Monitors and continuously improves project management best practices

As the Operating Model Business Owner:

  • Leads the change in how teams, processes and technology assets are defined across all IS/GBS tech
  • Establishes periodic reviews to ensure best-practices across IS/GBS tech
  • Establishes performance metrics to measure and improve core IS processes

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Master’s degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience

AND

4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years’ experience leading diverse teams execute and deliver quality programs within timelines.
  • 5+ years’ experience working for a global pharmaceutical company in technology and/or project delivery role with an understanding of Pharma / Biotech business model, regulatory process & compliance guidelines
  • Sensitivity to diverse groups of people with the ability to manage many different opinions and perspectives, including tolerance for ambiguity
  • Demonstrated reputation as a well-respected, dynamic team player
  • Ability to build meaningful connections with stakeholders
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills and an ability to adapt one’s approach to a challenge, as well as excellent interpersonal skills
  • Capable of managing shifting priorities in a rapidly changing environment
  • Proven dedication and expertise with both traditional methodologies and agile frameworks as both a practitioner and leader, including major certifications: PMP, CSM/CSP/CST, SPC
  • Experience in managing solution delivery through product release methodology incorporating minimal viable product concepts
